Presentation

In 2013 I graduated as a clinical psychologist at the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven). Since then, I work as an independent clinical psychologist and worked as a voluntary psychologist for TEJO Brussels and Handicap International Belgium. In 2021 I started the specialization client centred psychotherapy at the KU Leuven to further expand my professional knowledge and framework.

From my own personal experience, I know how exciting it can be to take the step to psychological help and that change takes courage and time. I hope to bring my clients closer to themselves and help them (re)discover what makes life truly meaningful and fulfilling. In my spare time I like to go out with my dog and discover good books and films, enjoy nice food and quality time with friends.

Individual psychological counselling for (young) adults (16+) and elderly

Sometimes there are times in life when you feel stuck or you have been struggling with yourself for a long time and you notice that you can no longer get out on your own. Psychotherapy may then be helpful.

Examples of concerns for which you can contact me: you feel stuck, it’s all becoming too much for you, you don’t feel good in your own skin but you don't really understand why, you experience difficulties in the relationship with others, you notice that certain patterns keep repeating themselves, but you don't know how to change them…

Other types of requests can be:

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Grief (a death, loss of job, a breakup, ...)

  • Low self-esteem

  • Existential questions

  • Difficulties with making choices

  • Relational difficulties

Approach

There are different schools in psychotherapy. The four major schools are cognitive behavioral therapy, psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapy, systemic therapy and client-centered psychotherapy. My approach is based on the client-oriented psychotherapeutic framework, although I’m sometimes also inspired by techniques and concepts from other movements.

In client-oriented therapy, the client as a person is central: who are you as a person and how do you stand in life? In the therapy, the therapist provides a safe context from which, taking into account your pace and personal limits, you can explore together how you got stuck and what is needed to get blocked processes in motion again. In this approach there is a strong emphasis on emotions and how they guide our thinking and acting.

In therapy you get to know yourself better and to be in deeper contact with your feelings and needs so that you can make your own authentic choices. It is important that the client is willing to adopt an inquiring attitude towards him/herself and is willing to reflect on him/herself.

Together we will look for how you can deal with your vulnerabilities and the challenges that life entails, so that you can handle them better even after the therapy has been completed. Instead of only focusing on complaints and symptoms, we will also pay attention to your strengths and possible growth opportunities. I believe that in our vulnerability we also find our inner strength.

In my approach I attach great importance to our working relationship. I will therefore regularly check how you experience the therapy in order to adjust if necessary.

Process

During the intake, we explore your request for help and current living situation. Together we try to come to a good understanding of what is important for you to work on. Expectations about the further process are also discussed and we consider together whether we want to enter into this process together.

In a later phase of the therapy, we will go deeper into important themes in your life. It may happen that we will sometimes deviate from the initial request for help.

Together we agree on the appropriate frequency of the sessions, taking into account your needs and possibilities. It is common to see each other weekly or biweekly as this allows us to work more intensively on your problems. Depending on the process of the therapy, this can of course be adjusted.

The number of sessions depends on the request for help and can be short-term or rather long-term. During the counselling, we regularly reflect on how the therapy process is going.

Not sure if your request qualifies? Would you like more information or would you like to schedule an appointment? Please do not hesitate to contact us.
